What can a university student do?
Don't take your education for granted!
As many of the entrepreneurs have not had tertiary education, having basic marketing, accounting, mathematical or social skills can go a long way in making a difference. Coming from a different culture will also bring fresh ideas to the table, providing a different perspective to their business model.
IDS and Grameen also will have on-ground support that will train and assist you so don't worry!

What will my 4 weeks look like?
When you first land, rest assured, we will not throw you in the deep end. Grameen will be hosting workshops on entrepreneurship to help refine and develop your understanding of the local businesses. You will learn about the business environment in the Philippines and how your skill set can contribute.
Apart from that, the first week will be about about culture immersion. We want you to experience the Philippines as well. Spend the week walking around Manila. Feast on the local cuisine. Go site-seeing with tourists. Learn about the Filipino socio-cultural concerns and sensitivities. Discuss issues affecting the local communities. Grameen will also be hosting workshops on entrepreneurship to help refine and develop your understanding of the local businesses.
The 2nd, 3rd and half of the 4th week will be dedicated to helping the local entrepreneurs on Grameen's micro-finance scheme. You will be deployed in groups of 2-3 with other UNSW university students. You will rotate around several entrepreneurs and experience how business runs. Learn from them. Teach them your skills you have developed over your life. Remember, some ideas obvious to you may not be so for others. You will also participate in a range of other community activities such as day-care teaching. The weekends are your free time - visit the beaches, nightlife, relax in a spa or go shopping.
The last few days will be dedicated to debriefing you on the whole program. What did you learn? What would you change about the program? Did this experience change you in any way?

When does it start? How much does this cost?
The internship will run from late January to late February 2015 and cost approx. $2,300 (incl. insurance, return flights, transport, food and accommodation). We will be staying at the Fersal Hotel in Manila for the first week and at the King Solomon Christian School in the subsequent weeks (owned and operated by an amazing Christian couple).
A more detailed cost structure can be found in our Information Pack below.
